Sloppy Joes

February 28, 2011

I’m going to step (briefly!) away from baked goods to share an easy and yummy meal recipe with you. These sloppy joes have quickly become a favorite because they are just so so good. It probably helps that I am totally addicted to chili sauce lately, which is a key ingredient in these. The recipe came from my dear friend Sara who got it from her friend Dana. It is one of those recipes that gets passed around which is always a great sign. These sloppy joes are rich and flavorful. I just love ‘em! Seriously, this is comfort food at its finest. The recipe can easily be doubled (or tripled!) if you are feeding a crowd or if you just want to toss some in the freezer to have another meal later. These make a great weeknight meal because they are just so quick to throw together. Add in some fresh fruits or veggies and you’re all set! It barely takes much more time than opening a can of Manwich and it is so much better. Hopefully I’m not offending any Manwich fans out there;-) Give them a try. I’m betting you’ll love these!

Sloppy Joes

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 6 tbsp. diced onion
  • 3/4 cup chili sauce
  • 3 tsp. vinegar
  • 3 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
  • 3/4 tsp. chili powder

Brown ground beef. Add remaining ingredients and simmer 15-20 minutes. I tossed some chopped scallions in just before serving for a little extra color and flavor but that is totally optional. Serve on buttered, toasted buns.

Shelby, you can find bottled chili sauce next to the ketchup at most grocery stores.

Is chili sauce spicy? Nursing a newborn and don’t want to hurt his little tummy!

Becky March 8, 2013 at 5:46 pm

Chili sauce is really more tangy/sweet than spicy. I think your little babe would be fine:-)
